Learning At QTD

Welcome to the state of being curious about everything. At QTD, learning in an active pursuit that takes many shapes and forms. There is no one set track for students here. The opportunities are limitless. QTD meets you where you are and takes you to where you want to go.

Our Faculty

We have numerous passionate, caring faculty and staff members, including more than 28 classroom instructors. They have interesting lives and complex, colorful histories. They’re versatile, inspirational, and ever-present as instructors, trainers, academic advisors, counselors, mentors, and lifelong resources. Most of all, they were once like you: brainy, insatiably curious, multi-dimensional students. So they see you for who you are, and they help you discover who you’ll become.

Courses

We offer more than 100 of them. They are small (average class size: 12) and intensely interactive. They fall into roughly these categories: the arts, English, world languages, history and social science, math (including statistics and calculus), and philosophy and cultural studies. (Most upperclassmen take courses in all of these fields.) Some are interdisciplinary. Some are college level. All of them are designed to inspire a lifelong love of learning.

Never complacent, we are always asking our students how QTD can enhance their academic experience. Along with creating opportunities to explore topics more deeply, we make sure students have the time to reflect on—and savor—their intellectual growth.

Grades K-5

Academic rigor increases incrementally during the elementary years at QTD. Students are coached and encouraged to develop independence, confidence, and grit through independent and group projects with the guidance of highly skilled instructors. At QTD, we follow our students’ passions and interests as the curriculum unfolds each year. Our curriculum allows for students to learn concepts and explore their interests to extend their knowledge and creativity under the guidance of our faculty.

Our curriculum is enriched by specialty classes such as science, music, art, computer science, physical education, and more. These classes begin in our early childhood program and increase throughout the elementary years. Specialists and homeroom instructors collaborate to demonstrate intersections and connections within academic subjects.

Grade 6-8

The middle school years are a time of tremendous academic, social, and emotional growth, and the importance of the student-teacher relationship during these transitional years cannot be overemphasized. The QTD Middle School team, with its experience, dedication, patience, collegiality, and sense of humor, is ideally suited to meet the needs of our talented and dynamic student body. The team at QTD provide an environment where students are challenged academically, yet feel safe and supported in an atmosphere where they can thrive. The end product of the QTD Middle School experience is a student who displays leadership, confidence, creativity, empathy, adaptability, compassion, courage, and kindness.

QTD instructors inspire future leaders by holding students to high standards and challenging them through a rigorous curriculum. The knowledgeable and supportive team understands and responds to the unique needs of adolescents, fostering in each student a sense of confidence, ethics, and respect for others. In addition to providing a strong academic foundation, the Middle School team weaves our community values of responsibility, kindness, teamwork, generosity, creativity, curiosity, courage, integrity, and perseverance through our curriculum. Public speaking, critical thinking skills, and digital citizenship are also emphasized throughout the Middle School program.

High School - Grade 9-12

Our High School program begins with outstanding academics and is wrapped with support, counseling, choices, community, and online tools to help teens identify their goals, chart their paths, and enjoy their journeys.

Each student benefits from a team of subject-specific instructors, academic coaches, and counselors who will create and continually monitor their Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and guide students to post-high-school success—to a top-tier college if that’s what they want, or to a vocational program or associate's degree program that prepares them for a specific career.

An expansive curriculum of 150+ courses gives students essential choices. We offer math, English, science, and history courses in multiple levels—Core, Comprehensive, Honors, and college-level Advanced Placement (AP), plus Foundations and Credit Recovery—to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Genuinely qualified in their subjects, certified high school teachers engage with students’ work every week. Teachers frequently use live “ClassConnect” sessions for direct instruction. Students are regularly involved in threaded, teacher-monitored discussions with one another.

Students can also take up to four years of a world language, including AP, and choose from nearly 40 electives such as Nutrition and Wellness, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, and Computer Science.

Students are held more accountable for their daily progress and time management. While coursework can be completed on students’ own time, classes need to move at a consistent pace. Yes, we will push your student, but only to maximize success on his or her path. We won’t judge the path, but we will judge the effort—and expect hard work and determination.

As an accredited school, our program collaborating with many other world class organizations offers a U.S. diploma accepted by schools, colleges, universities, and employers across the globe.
